Why Your “Transformation” Isn’t Showing Up in the Business!!

If your transformation lives in slides, it doesn’t exist in reality.

Read time: 2.5 minutes

This is the hard truth: Transformation is measured by true change and not by what you have launched as a transit leader.

The transformation leader provides the board with a deck of timelines, milestones and progress metrics. The board listens and asks one question: "What's really different?" There is silence.

Even after many months of activities, nothing has changed in the system. We have moved forward with the work, but the business has not changed.

Ways to Prove Transformation (Do Not Just Talk About It)

1. Activities Don't Prove Anything
• Programs, roadmaps and milestones = movement
• The board wants results

2. System Change Is the Only Indicator Of Progress
• What process has been eliminated or changed?
• What decision is made faster or more easily now?

3. Speed Is A Concrete Measurement
• Measure:
→ time to make a decision
→ time to carry out a decision
• Systems that are faster = true transformation

4. Metrics Should Start To Change Immediately
• Don't wait until it's perfect to use
• Show early and often progress in your metric direction

5. Remove Before You Add
• Transformation starts with removing
• Eliminate things that slow down your system.

💡Key Takeaway:

If your transformation has not affected your business or organization, it has failed.
