Why Growth Suddenly Feels Lonely (And Why That’s Not a Red Flag)

No one tells you this part of growth... when progress stops being loud.

Read time: 2.5 minutes

At first, growth seems as if everyone around you wants to see you succeed. Everyone is really supportive of the growth that you have made! You get your feedback right away and you are able to witness your progress immediately, also.

As time goes on, things begin to become different. The cheers for your growth will get fewer and the feedback you receive will grow less and less. You will begin to feel as if you are alone. You will ask yourself if you made a mistake or missed an opportunity. You did not lose momentum... you gained distance!

How to Properly Understand the Silence?

1. Silence is often a good indication that you have surpassed others, not that you are alone.
The farther you’re able to go, the fewer your outside validators can see how far you’ll be going.

2. Growth typically entails having diminished instances of overlap prior to making an impact.
Less validation at this time generally precedes more substantial meaning at some point later down the road.

3. Having fewer voices does not equate to having less momentum.
It simply means you are moving in a more powerful and directed way.

4. A lack of applause does not serve as a reason to begin slowing your momentum.
Momentum does not require anyone else’s presence to exist.

5. Some of the right people will catch up later... probably much later, or they’ll meet you far down the road (ahead of where they started).
This isn’t because they cannot follow through on this entire journey with you.

💡Key Takeaway:

The reason growth has become quieter is not that you are doing things wrong, but rather because at this time, there are few people able to follow in the direction in which you’re headed. Just because the noise has all but disappeared from around you is no reason for you to think about turning back towards it... you may be, in fact, making progress.
