TRUTH: If You’ve Lost Your Career Identity, Don’t Let the Market Rewrite It
If your job search has lasted long enough to blur your confidence, this is the reset.

Read time: 2.5 minutes
When someone casually asks you, “What do you do?” you hesitate.
In the past, you would respond quickly and simply (Director), but now, with added context, you expend too much effort explaining yourself and using softer language, as you are experiencing not only transitional growth but also an existential crisis and a sense of being lost.
This uncertainty is not a business issue... it's about taking ownership of your situation.
Career Identity TRUTH™ Reset
T – Tension
When you identify yourself, you base this primarily on your title rather than your abilities.
What to do: Instead of saying “I am looking for...” say “I am building… I am leading… I am designing… I am driving…” Use the present tense without any disclaimers.
R – Reframe
You believe you are stuck.
You are in the process of redefining your position.
What to do: Instead of saying “I am unemployed,” say “I am in a state of transition toward (Specific Role)”. Being precise can help you increase your confidence.
U – Utility
A vague identity equals a vague energy level.
What to do: Write down three of the best business results you have produced consistently:
• Increased revenue by $X
• Decreased cost $Y
• Developed system Z
Providing proof to others helps you restore certainty.
T – Transfer
When you change your story every time you speak with someone, you feel unstable.
What to do: Create one single positioning statement that you can use consistently across your resume, LinkedIn profile, phone calls, etc.
H – Human Proof
When you wait for a job offer before you feel legitimate, you are delaying your success.
What to do: Publish your thoughts in writing, create some tangible visible results or allow people to lead a discussion with you.
Act as if you are already at the level of your desired role.
💡Key Takeaway:
You own your abilities; the title, however, belongs to the organisation.
If your position were eliminated tomorrow, it wouldn't mean your worth was gone... it would just be time to find ways to reclaim your worth by doing what you are good at.
