The Most Radical Career Move This Valentine’s Day Isn’t Romantic!
Valentine’s Day sells devotion. But the harder choice is direction.

Read time: 2.5 minutes
Making a choice is empowering. It gives you control over whom to be with, the plan you create for your life together, and the way you imagine your future. Society has instilled in us that making a commitment is romantic and admirable, and even something one should do.
However, I believe the most courageous choice you can make is the one you make for yourself... not your title (or label), not the timeline you are trying to follow, and not the version of yourself that you think will make other people comfortable... just you... without all of the pretentiousness of performance.
How Can You Make Your Own Choices Without Destroying Everything You've Ever Worked On?
1. Distinguish Between Who You Are and What You Do.
If your job title were removed tomorrow, would you still feel the same way about yourself?
Do This: List out all the skills and decisions you want to own as an individual (regardless of specific position).
2. Stop Competing with Others to Determine Your Timelines or Deadlines.
Pressure comes from comparison rather than actual need.
Do This: Create your own definition of success based on your life energy rather than the speed at which others achieve success.
3. Choose Alignment Over Applause.
Applause is short-lived. Misalignment lasts forever.
Do This: Examine your current commitments and determine which ones appear to be based on performance.
4. Make One Decision That Is Centered On You.
It does not have to be dramatic; it just needs to be purposeful.
Do This: Say "no" to one thing that appears to be impressive but doesn’t feel right.
5. Direction is Better Than Validation.
Clarity is quieter than validation, but it will last much longer.
Do This: Choose the route that will best support your long-term goals… not necessarily the route that will provide you with immediate validation.
💡Key Takeaway:
The act of selecting oneself isn't necessarily self-centered, but rather a strategic decision. Titles can shift and timelines may be altered, yet a course aligned with your intent is likely to endure greater value than the duration of applause.
