CEO Reality Check: Your Energy Is the Real P&L
If performance feels fragile this quarter, ask a harder question: What are you broadcasting?

Read time: 2.5 minutes
In Quarter 1, the pressure is mounting. The weight of your forecast calls, the acrimony of the investor emails, and your closeness to your targets are all very different from what they were back in January.
You think you are staying calm, but your voice changes, you go back and forth on decisions, and you are much less likely to delegate. No one says anything to you directly, yet fewer new ideas are being proposed and fewer people are willing to take risks.
Your team is reacting not just to the numbers but also to you.
The CEO's 30-Second Energy Audit:
1. Calm promotes quickness.
When you are stable and calm, it promotes decisiveness. When everyone else has stability, there will be less chance of hesitating or questioning themselves.
2. Anxiety creates cautiousness.
When you appear anxious, those you lead will go into a defensive mode. Defense does not build market share.
3. Dispersed focus creates confusion.
When your focus shifts with your emotional state, it disrupts the execution of the task at hand.
4. You are communicating more than you realize.
What you are projecting includes your body language, response time and micro-expressions. The organization is reflecting everything you are projecting.
5. Presence is a lever for leadership.
Most CEOs focus on measuring their departments' performance. Only the top 5% of CEOs also measure their employees' emotional energy levels.
Energy is contagious. Doubt is also contagious.
What energy or doubt are you creating within your organization this week?
💡Key Takeaway:
The true P&L consists of profit and loss. It also includes presence and leadership.
You can’t stabilize your organization until you stabilize yourself if you feel there's instability in your performance.
