Building an All-in-One Platform? That’s Why No One Is Buying

If you’re solving everything, you’re solving nothing well.

Read time: 2.5 minutes

To put it bluntly, being everything to everyone will make you obsolete at lightning speed.

For example, a founder might pitch an all-in-one platform with capabilities in analytics, automation, AI, and dashboards. Impressive.

Then one of the investors says, "What is the greatest pain point your product solves best?" The founder pauses... because their product is so broad and lacks clarity about its value.

How do you create a product that people will spend money on?

1. Take a Small Initial Focus
Demand is driven by focus.
• Create an answer to a single pain point.
• Own one use case.

2. Develop a Solid Definition of Your ICP
Not everyone is your customer.
• Identify the people who need it the most.
• Develop specifically for them.

3. Establish a Success in One Use Case First
Proof creates credibility.
• Show value in one area.
• Expand after the first success.

4. Always Cut Features Free from Complexity
Clarity is confused with feature overload.
• Remove features that add no value.
• Identify and prioritise the features that will have the greatest impact.

5. Expand Through Success, Don’t Assume You Will
Your business will grow if your customer has had a successful experience.
• Add features based on customer demand.
• Grow/scale based on success, not on your ambition to grow or scale.

💡Key Takeaway:

If you attempt to fix everything, then people do not trust that you will fix anything.
