AI Isn’t Breaking Qlik Sense, But Your Modeling Is!
AI in Qlik Sense doesn’t create trust. It accelerates whatever you built.

Read time: 2.5 minutes
An Insight Advisor is tested by a Qlik developer and AI finds an "insight" that shows an increase in revenue was due to filtering at the wrong level.
This causes a quietness in the room, followed by debates. Then the developer recalls seeing synthetic keys within the Data Model Viewer... thus, the issues were not created by AI, but rather exposed.
5 Brutal Truths Qlik Developers Avoid:
1. Synthetic Keys Are Your Model, Not AI’s, Problem
A faulty data model cannot be fixed by Insight Advisor.
Solution: Remove circular references and synthetic keys. Create a star schema instead!
Trustworthy AI will be built only upon a clean data model.
2. There Are No Master Measures... Therefore, There Is Chaos
AI will use whichever measures you’ve got.
Solution: Establish standard Master Measures, document definitions, and lock the logic.
Enterprise BI requires discipline.
3. Insight Advisor Doesn’t Know Grain
If the data is at the wrong grain, it can create incorrect dashboards.
Solution: Use the proper granularity and manually confirm the grain prior to creating any datasets.
You may not have control of your granularity, but AI can control the narrative if you don’t.
4. Poor Performance Due to Script Issues, Not UI
AI will not automatically optimize joins or cardinality.
Solution: Eliminate unused fields, limit high-cardinality keys, and use QVD layers instead.
Building performance is a defined process; it isn’t left up to chance.
5. AI Finds Correlation, Not Causation
Trust but verify.
Solution: Make use of documented applications, conduct data quality audits, and compare AI-derived insights to established business rules.
💡Key Takeaway:
AI will not be the replacement of Qlik developers... rather, developers who use the AI without practicing their art of data modelling will replace themselves.
