A Chatbot Is Now Our Data Science Team. What Could Go Wrong?

Replaced. Not again. Data fuels the pain. SQL still runs the world. But sure, let's trust the chatbot.

Data science team: many years of training, a large amount of complex modeling, and lots of issues with deployment when chatting with a bot that said "Hi! I'm your new team." Didn’t look quite right.

They replaced their data science team with a bot that answered their questions and generated SQL, which looked really good until something didn't add up… because the bot didn’t have any business logic, their data scientists had already left.

3 Reasons That Chatbots Cannot Replace Data Scientists

1. Chatbots can create SQL , while Data Scientists understand Business Logic.
❌ Trusting every SQL chatbot cannot be trusted.
✅ Validate the results of the SQL generated by the chatbot versus real Business Rules. Over time, a chatbot will likely not understand, for example, the meaning of " active customer" for your Business.

2. Chatbots can answer questions, while Data Scientists solve problems.
❌ Quick Answers are a great thing to use a chatbot for.
✅ Is this the right question to ask? Chatbots can respond to Asking Questions, while Data Scientists will think. Very Different!

3. Chatbots Deploy Hope, while Data Scientists Deploy Models.
❌ Referring to the Responses of a Chatbot as Predictions.
✅ Building true Models that learn & adapt over time. Hope is not a way to deploy.

💡Key Takeaway:

Chatbots may offer answers to all types of questions… however, they lack intelligence due to the reasons listed above. If you are considering deploying hope, think about deploying a model.
