5 Brutal Truths About GenAI + Unstructured Data in Qlik (Why Your AI Insights Feel Off)
If your inputs aren’t structured, Qlik’s AI will just fail faster—with confidence.

Here's an uncomfortable fact: Qlik's AI doesn't fix unstructured data... rather, it enhances whatever is provided as input.
When messy text data is imported into Qlik, users can access Insight Advisor to automatically generate insightful reports and charts.
If someone questions the outputs of Qlik, however, they will often find that the output does not stand up to scrutiny or support.
The reason is that the AI produced results based on flawed inputs.
Combining GenAI and Qlik - Here are the problems (and the Solutions!)
1. Qlik AI Will Not Do Data Cleansing
It is not designed to operate on raw text.
• Use Qlik AI AFTER the data is already shaped.
• Get insight from Qlik AI, do not construct input.
2. Bad Input = Bad Output
Your Insight Advisor reflects your model.
• Structure the data you feed into Qlik AI (sentiment, topics, entities).
• Clean the data prior to doing the analysis.
3. Associative Does Not Denote Understanding
Associative relationships do not mean anything.
• You should use GenAI to classify and normalize text outside Qlik.
• You can load the results from GenAI into Qlik as dimensions.
4. Do Not Force AI into Load Scripts
Qlik is not your NLP engine.
• Avoid complicated text parsing within load scripts.
• Interpret the text (GenAI) and build the model (Qlik) separately.
5. Your Model Dictates the Quality of AI
AI can identify weaknesses in your base.
• Have a clean schema, have consistent keys, and have standardized dimensions.
• Make sure your model is ready for AI before adding AI.
💡Key Takeaway:
While Qlik’s AI may not provide you with intelligent data, it has enabled you to see all the flaws and limitations of your data model.
